Carrots for eyesight is the first of four quests offered by Ross, a quest giver in the village of Glancor.

Quest Summary

Ross wants the player to learn about naviagating doors. He asks you to fetch him a carrot from the farm just north of him.

When the player returns with the carrot they are rewarded with a choice of body armor.

Starting the Quest

Ross will greet a player when they enter the room, assuming that their level is not too high for his quests. Saying 'quest' will result in Ross providing an explanation of your current task.

Walkthrough ahead

You say 'quest' Ross says 'Argh. Yeh, I have something for you, <playername>. My eyes are going and the Wisdom tells me to eat carrots.' Ross says 'Just to the north of here, a little farm lies east off of the road. Somewhere within, the farmer keeps carrots for me - go get me one!' Ross says 'His doors may be closed so you'll need to open them. Just "open barndoor" or whatever the door happens to be called and you'll be good to go.' Ross says 'Similarly, you can close doors behind you (or in front of you!) in the same manner. Now go fetch me my carrot, youngster!'

Quest Guide

The farm Ross is talking about is just north east of him and very quick to reach. The entrance room 'In front of the farmhouse' is located 4n 3e from Ross. Of note when first arriving in front of the farmhouse, 1n is a horse load 'A Hayfield Barn' should you need a horse. To get further into the farm the player will need to open the front door.

Entering the command 'open frontdoor' will allow the player to move east into the Farmhouse. They will then similarly need to open the backdoor and head 1e 1n. This will bring you to the vegetable garden, the item needed is a brightly colored carrot. Once you have one return to Ross for your reward.

Alternatively, if none are here you can also locate a carrot in and around the mannor south of Aringill (east of Caemlyn).

Completion

Give Ross the carrot and he will go over opening and closing doors along with searching for hidden doors. He also mentions his bounty for coyote scalps.

You will then have the choice of which body armor you wish to receive: Abs, Combo or Dodge

give carrot Ross You give a brightly colored carrot to Ross. Ross licks his mouth and smiles. Ross says 'Mmm, fresh carrots. I think its all pointless, but maybe it will actually help.' Ross glares at the carrot briefly then begins chewing on it. Ross says 'You figure out those doors OK then, <playername>? Some of them are out in the open and anyone can open and close them, but some are hidden.' Ross says 'To find those hidden ones, you need to find a hunter trainer (like Vatrin) and practice your searching skills.' Ross says 'Once you hone those skills, you can find some hidden doors - or all of them, depending on how much you practice!' Ross says 'You just find a room that doesn't look to have an exit in one direction and you search in that direction. Use "look" to see the obvious exits and be sure to read the room description for clues.' Ross says 'For instance, this room doesn't lead up or down so you could "search down" and see if you see anything. Keep in mind these hidden doors are rare and searching costs a move each time.' Ross says 'Anyhoo, there is a bounty on coyote scalps - those darned beasts are a menace! Bring me scalps for cash. Whenever you want more work, just ask me about quests.' Ross says 'Oh, your reward. I almost forgot! What're you calling yourself? An abser, comboer, or dodger? Just say which one and I'll give you something for your time.' say dodger You say 'dodger' Ross gives you a shadowy vest. Ross stops using a pipe. Ross says 'That'll serve you well, <playername>. Finely made, it is!'
