Shields are worn items which, when combined with practices in the Shield parry skill, can provide a substantial Parry bonus (PB) boost.
In addition to skill practice, the PB gained is also highly dependent on the player's Dexterity (Dex) stat.

An update on February 13 2009 added the ability for clanned players to retool 'a silver etched shield' to a clan-specific design. Players can give their shield to the seamstress, say 'retool etched', and it will be handed back retooled to their clan's colors.

Swordbreaker[]
Additionally, players can retool 'a silver etched shield' into a swordbreaker. Players can give their shield to the seamstress, say 'retool sword breaker', and it will be handed back retooled to a swordbreaker etched with silver.
Parrying Dagger[]
Finally, players can retool 'a dull black shield' into a parrying dagger. Players can give their shield to the seamstress, say 'retool parrying dagger', and it will be handed back retooled to a parrying dagger of dull black steel.
