Within the Carved Chamber (Stedding Tsochan in the Great Forest)
Every inch of the oval chamber's walls is carved in an exquisitely detailed
frieze of coiling vines and broad trefoil leaves, fat grapes hidden beneath
the fronds. The hollowed-out chamber is small and cramped, a couch lodged
at an awkward angle against one wall and propped up with a pile of old,
dusty books. A small table sits before it, its copper fittings stained with
verdigris. An empty bottle of wine sits forlornly next to a neatly folded
tablecloth, its corners embroidered with bright red thread. A tatty
Murandian rug covers the floor, its moth-eaten fibers threadbare.
