All,
Sorry for the very short notice but I've been told I may need to find a new home for the MUD box.
Until I'm able to do that, I may wind up having various pieces of functionality unavailable. For example, I may limit the number of connections and web server access substantially, so as to appear the least invasive possible to our current gracious hosts.
We will also be adding code to ensure that idle tcp connections or folks just attempting to consume those connections do not adversely block people playing, as well as limiting bandwidth to each IP address connecting to the MUD. This means, if you were a very heavy user of the web pages (some people were absolutlely ridiculous), your ability to do so will be gone.
Also, it may well need to be the case that during business hours on the US East Coast (~8 AM to ~6 PM) the machine might be totally unavailable or running with a limited number of mud and/or web users. I hope to prevent that, but my current goal is to obviously find a new home for the MUD box.
Just fyi... thanks in advance for your patience. Also, for those who were waiting for some responses from me, I am again catching up on mails now. Do NOT send me any new mail. All news mails regarding mortal appeals are still being deleted, as I've previously mentioned - until I catch up with the old appeals.
Lastly, we are NOT shutting down. I just need to find a new site. Until that time I may need to limit the number of users, but even then we'll ONLY be limited it during the business day as described above. Some of the bandwidth restrictions on connections will be made permanent though. Like I said, the amount of traffic some particular IP addresses were generating was sheerly ridiculous.
